About Cannes and Our Luxury Accommodation Rentals

A brief overview of Cannes by area

Fringed by shady palm trees, the Croisette is the heart of Cannes and stretches along the seafront for two kilometres. This is where the Cannois spend their time. Stroll along the prom, people-watch on the Boulevards, shop until you drop in the upscale boutiques of Rue d’Antibes or laze the day away on a private beach cooling off with the occasional dip in the Med before the next drink arrives. How does that sound?

Of course, Cannes is much more than just sunshine and beaches, if you’re looking for a bit of culture with your cocktail don’t miss a trip to Le Suquet, the oldest part of town. Le Suquet is a warren of tiny streets and steep stone stairways dating back to 154 BC. The old town boasts a medieval castle and museum at the very top of the hill with some amazing views over the bay.

Just off the coast of Cannes are the islands of Lérins which are perfectly placed for a quick trip by boat. Ile Ste-Marguérite has the infamous Fort Royal prison where you can discover the mystery of the Man in the Iron Mask. The smaller of the two islands, Ile St-Honorat, is home to an order of Cistercian monks who produce expensive but delicious wine and honey for visitors to purchase.

Food-lovers in Cannes will not be disappointed. The Le Suquet streets are packed with restaurants serving up delicious French and Italian cuisine both day and night. You’ll find everything from tiny family-run bistros where reservations are unheard of, and payment is firmly cash-only to Michelin-starred restaurants where you can enjoy gourmet cuisine prepared by some of the country’s top chefs in the most elegant of surroundings. Mediterranean and Provencal's cuisine are very popular, but Cannes also has some great Asian and Middle Eastern restaurants too.

The Carré d’Or in the town centre is home to the best nightlife in Cannes (as well as some parts of the Croisette). Start the evening with an aperitif and tapas and finish up by dancing the night away in one of the many nightclubs. For a fun evening out, bar hop your way along the lively Rue Commandant André and don’t forget to check out the backstreets for hidden gems. Cannes has some great little bars which serve up cocktails and live music until the early hours.

When is best to visit Cannes?

The South of France has a fantastic climate and is famous for its year-round sunshine and mild temperatures. Summer on the Riviera kicks off in May with the Cannes Film Festival when Hollywood rolls into town and continues until late September when the Monaco Yacht show brings the season to a close with a bang and an impressive fireworks display.

July and August are when Cannes is at its busiest with travellers from all over the world enjoying the hot summer sun. June and September are good months to visit Cannes. The weather is warm, and the area is not as busy as it can be in mid-summer, but just as lively in terms of things to do.

If a Cannes summer is not really your style, why not plan a break later in the year instead. Winter is a great time to rent a villa in Cannes as there are some excellent ski resorts within a two-hour drive of the coast. Laze away the morning on a sunny terrace in Cannes then take a heli-transfer up to the mountains to spend the afternoon skiing in Isola 2000, Auron or Limone which is over in Italy. Later, enjoy some well-deserved apres-ski drinks in one of the ski resort bars.

Must see and do in Cannes

There is so much to do and see in the South of France that one visit to the region will never be enough, you’ll want to come back again and again to experience it all. Here are some of our top tips for an unforgettable day or evening out during your stay in a luxury villa on the Riviera:

Treat yourself

You’re on holiday, you’re here to chill out, so why not take relaxation to a new level and spend a day in one of health spas in Cannes. Slip on your complimentary robe and slippers and enjoy the indoor pool and jacuzzi with views over the bay before indulging in a Honey-Sugar exfoliation followed by a Salted-Caramel massage. By the end of your treatment, you’ll feel relaxed and sweet enough to eat!

The night before the morning after

If you want to party like a rockstar all night then Cannes has got you covered. Reserve a table for dinner at the legendary Baoli and step off the Croisette into a secret Balinese garden with palm trees, candle-lit tables and some extremely potent cocktails. Dine in style on delicious Asian-fusion cuisine, but when the clock strikes midnight get ready as the restaurant is transformed into the hottest club in town. Baoli has international DJs queuing up to play live and a spectacular VIP room open to those who ask nicely according to the owners. Drink champagne and dance on the tables until the sun comes up before sleeping it all off on the beach the day after.

Roll the dice

Just like neighbouring Monaco, Cannes has its very own casino. In fact, it has 3 of them so if you like a bit of a flutter you’ve come to the right place. One option is to head to the Palm Beach Casino and get lucky under the stars on their outdoor gaming terrace which overlooks the Med. If you get peckish, simply pop over to the Casino Restaurant and enjoy a bite to eat from the Mediterranean-influenced menu before heading back to the tables to roll the dice or spin the wheel. Are you feeling lucky?

Relax

Reserve a sunbed at ZPlage and spend the day soaking up the Riviera sunshine, sipping cocktails and chilling out to music from the resident DJ. ZPlage has a sexy, glamorous atmosphere, perfect for getting the party started early or simply carrying on where you left off the night before. Ask the plagiste for a spot on the highly sought-after pier and when you’ve had enough sun, check out the pop-up Givenchy spa which offers massage and facials right on the beach. Life simply doesn’t get much better than this.

If you would like suggestions and ideas about what to do on the French Riviera, please get in touch with our concierge team who will be more than happy to help.
