About Le Cannet

Just minutes away from the golden beaches and glittering skyline of Cannes, Le Cannet is a picture-perfect town in the hills. Le Cannet might not be as well known as the dazzling resorts of Cannes and Antibes, but this lovely little town is one of the French Riviera’s true hidden gems. Surrounded by lush greenery and overlooking the coast, Le Cannet has been charming visitors for years with its picturesque streets and golden sunlight. Sitting high above the Mediterranean, the town is surrounded by 7 hills and enjoys some of the most spectacular sunsets in the area. Add in Le Cannet’s fantastic location and wonderfully mild climate, and you’ve got the perfect place to call home in the South of France.

Originally known as ‘Olivetum’ thanks to olive groves planted by the Romans, the town adopted the name Le Cannet in 1281. In those days Le Cannet was officially attached to the city of Cannes but in the 18th century the Cannettans decided to break away and become a commune in their own right. The city of Cannes refused to give up Le Cannet without a fight, and the two communes then spent a few decades arguing and fighting complicated legal battles. Eventually they managed to settle their differences, and in 1777 Le Cannet was officially recognised as an independent commune by the King’s Council of State and the Parliament of Provence.
