The French Riviera is known for its famous towns and pretty villages, not forgetting of course its fabulous beaches. Depending on where you choose to spend your long holiday, there’s plenty to discover.
If you’re in Nice, for example, you can take a stroll along the famous Promenade des Anglais, visit Vieux-Nice or climb Castle Hill for a panoramic view of the city.
Just next door to Nice, Villefranche-sur-Mer is also a pretty little town with a lot to offer. Climb up to the Saint-Elme citadel for an incredible view over the harbour. You can also wander through the old streets, where some superb old houses bear witness to the past.
Continue on to Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. This peninsula is home to some sumptuous villas, including the famous Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild.
Don’t forget Monaco, where you can discover the famous rock, Saint-Nicolas cathedral and the exotic garden.
From there, it’s a short drive to Menton and its old town. Here you can visit the Basilique Saint-Michel and the Pénitents chapel. You can also take advantage of the restaurant terraces on the Place des Herbes.
Now it’s time to climb up and leave the coast. Head for the village of Èze, one of the best-known spots on the French Riviera, with its exceptional views.
Head back down to Antibes. Here you can admire the Vauban port and the Fort Carré, not forgetting the Cap d’Antibes.
Of course, Cannes is an unmissable destination on the French Riviera. You’ll love the Croisette, the Palais des Festivals and the Suquet district. The same goes for Saint-Tropez, a trendy upmarket destination. With its lively nightlife and luxury boutiques, it’s sure to please.
On the French Riviera, you can also discover the scenery from a boat. There are plenty of water-based excursions on offer. You can visit the Lérins islands, discover the Cassis creeks or explore the Hyères islands.
